2018 Ford Mustang Review

The Ford Mustang had some upgrades at the start of the new generation, but the 2018 model year experienced an overall update that increased its performance and handling, as well as adding some of the best technology on the market for an exciting but practical package.

Drivers in Oneida, Rome, and Utica can find out what's new for the 2018 Ford Mustang with our in-depth review.

Performance & Handling

Doing away with the entry-level V6, the 2018 Ford Mustang replaced it with a 2.3L turbocharged 4-cylinder that delivers 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This capable engine is an improvement on the old V6, while also improving the Mustang's fuel economy. This engine transfers power through a 6-speed manual transmission.

Those looking for a true muscle car still have a V8 option, though. The classic 5.0L is still there, though it improved its previous numbers to 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines are available with a newly designed and impressive 10-speed automatic transmission that's causing quite a buzz in the industry. It's the same transmission that helps the F-150 deliver greater numbers, but it manages to increase the Mustang's fuel economy while also channeling the power more effectively.

The Mustang has always been agile and sharp, though some mechanical changes give it more athleticism than ever before. The steering is well-weighted and precise, which helps the Mustang tackle the winding roads, and the strong brakes deliver reliable stopping power.

Style

The 2018 Ford Mustang comes in two body styles: a coupe and a convertible. Both share new front fascia with sharp, LED headlights, subtle sculpting, and bold rear styling that's a throwback to the classic style. The Mustang is also available in several trim levels, wheel designs, and color palettes to customize it, along with many feature packages and standalone options.

There are few changes to the Mustang's interior, though it does offer a little more space than previous models, and the new technology is integrated into the design in a way that doesn't clutter the intimate space.

Features

For the 2018 model year, the Ford Mustang added more technology and convenience features to its existing equipment. It comes standard with an auto-dimming mirror, two USB ports, keyless entry and ignition, a 4.2-inch instrument display screen, and a 6-speaker audio system. The vehicle can be equipped with a heated steering wheel, navigation, smartphone compatibility, and a SYNC® 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen.

The Mustang can also be equipped with many advanced driver-assisting technologies, such as BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, and Lane-Keeping System. These actively work while you're driving to help prevent an accident from occurring.
